OUR PHILOSOPHY

Morecan's mission is to improve the quality of the relationship between dogs and their owners.  Our aim is to strengthen the canine-human link, in terms of comprehension.  Bearing in mind that not all dogs are the same because not all breeds are the same, their education will be more efficient if it caters to the needs of the individual dog.
This way the relationship will be closer because the dog-owner duo will be better able to communicate with each other making living together more fruitful and relaxed.  Our hope is to prove to owners that they do not need to use Positive Punishment to teach their dogs because the latter are not beasts who only understand dominance and aggression, but rather they are intelligent beings capable of understanding a wide range of abilities.

In Morecan, we believe in respect towards animals and, in our case, especially towards dogs, and in their rights.  We are not saying that a dog is equal to man, although neither do we think of it as inferior.  It is simply different.

We often anthropomorphize a dog’s actions; that is, we interpret what it does in a human way, as if it were a person.  Although a dog is the best friend of many people, we must ALWAYS remember that it is an animal.  As such, it has its own ways of living, eating, thinking, learning and interacting, etc..  He deserves to be respected for his very nature.

As human beings we have evolved a great deal and if we are as intelligent as we believe, we should make the effort to understand our friend instead of expecting our dog to understand how we function; it’s difficult enough for us to understand ourselves!

We believe that, although a dog doesn’t have the same capacity of thought as a human, it is more than capable of learning.  A long time has passed since corporal punishment was abolished in schools because 1. it’s cruel and 2. in the majority of cases it doesn’t work or it’s much less effective.  It’s the same with dogs.  It’s barbaric to beat “education” into a living being which is more than capable of learning, if we only bother to find out how to teach him.

In conclusion, in Morecan, we believe in truly teaching dogs, WHATEVER his breed or reputation may be, and not in scaring or threatening them.  We use effective training methods which respect the dog.  We look to achieve the dog’s complicity, to get him to collaborate with us, unobliged, we want him to want to learn together with us and even to enjoy doing it.
